Earlham Spanish Program
This year I have reworked the Spanish program. In the past, I used the traditional methods of teaching a world language. With the traditional way, I noticed there were many skills being acquired but for the majority of the students speaking skills were lacking. Since speaking is probably the most practical use of a second language, I decided I needed something different to get students speaking right away. TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) has become my method of choice. I started at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year and am really seeing results. Students were reading stories and retelling stories within the third week of school! There are still more things to add but this method is paying off so far.
